El anuncio de hoy viernes 15 de junio enfatiza las iniciativas anteriormente tomadas por la Casa Blanca y el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional(DHS, por sus siglas en inglés) y fue realizado para asegurarse que jóvenes elegibles no terminen presa del sistema migratorio actual, que los recursos nacionales sean utilizados de forma correcta, y que la implementación de las leyes migratorias consideren factores humanitarios.

Acción de aplazamiento no es un estatus legal permanente o ciudadanía sino más bien una forma para que la gente joven, que han estado en este país desde pequeños/as puedan completar su educación, continuar el servicio militar o iniciar sus carreras. La acción de aplazamiento será emitida caso por caso y es renovable cada dos años.

El anuncio de hoy crea el espacio necesario para permitir al Congreso delinear una solución más permanente que extendería el estatus legal para esta gente joven que a pesar de no haber nacido aquí son estadounidenses en todo sentido.

De acuerdo a DHS, la acción de aplazamiento será ofrecida a jóvenes entre las edades 15 a 30 que vinieron a los Estados Unidos antes de los 16 años de edad, que han estado en el país por al menos 5 años, sin historial criminal y se encuentren en el país hoy en día.

The Obama Administration announced today that it will grant deferred action to undocumented youth who were brought to the United States as small children and who have been raised and educated in communities around the country.

Today's announcement builds on the prosecutorial discretion initiatives already undertaken by the White House and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and was done to ensure that eligible young people do not fall through the cracks, that resources are used wisely, and that humanitarian factors are considered when enforcing our immigration laws.

Deferred action is not permanent legal status or citizenship but rather a way to allow those young people, who have been in this country since they were young, to complete their education, continue their military service or begin their careers. The grant of deferred action will be issued on a case-by-case basis and is renewable every two years.

Today’s announcement will create the necessary space to allow Congress to craft a more permanent solution that will extend legal status to these young people who are American in all but their country of birth.

According to DHS, deferred action will be offered to young people between the ages of 15-30 who came to the U.S. before the age of 16 and have been in the country for at least five years, have no criminal history, and are in the country as of today.
